Knox Presbyterian Church Cancellation / Inclement Weather Policy

 We will endeavor to keep the church facility open and associated ministries operating as much as possible.  There are times, however, when weather and road conditions dictate that services, ministries and the facility must be closed.  The following material outlines these policies.  Decisions to close (or not) are made by the following that have been appointed by Session: Pastor Jim Bonewald and Jennifer Richmond. 

Important Safety Note:  Weather conditions in and around the church can vary substantially from those in other areas of Cedar Rapids, surrounding towns, and throughout the county.  Even though the building may be open or an event has not been cancelled, only you can decide whether conditions in your area will allow for safe travel.  Please use your own best judgment regarding travel conditions in your area.

 Posting of Information:  Closings or cancellations below are posted on the Knox website (www.knoxcr.org) and on KCRG, KWWL, and KGAN.  Please note that the church website should be the first place to check as it can take the media time to get the information on the air and on their websites.  Expect a call from a church representative only if you have requested a personal call.  To request a call, please contact the church office (319-393-9355).  If you would like to receive an email notification, please let the office know.

Worship Services:  Closing information will be posted on the Knox website no later than one-hour (as a guideline) prior to Sunday morning activities.

Building Closing: It is rare that we have to close the building due to weather.  However, when this occurs it can be assumed that ALL ACTIVITIES and EVENTS scheduled during the period of closure are cancelled.  If the building is closed in the morning, it will likely be closed all day and evening. 

Knox Presbyterian Church will generally follow the Cedar Rapids/College Community School Districts for cancellation of events, meetings, etc.  However it should be noted that the decision to close the building would not necessarily be tied to any outside organization or the closing choices made by local school systems.

Early Dismissal/Closure:  If weather conditions deteriorate during the day, it is possible that the building will be closed for the evening only.  This information will be posted no later than one-hour (as a guideline) prior to an event or activity.

 All cancellation policies include outside groups.  This policy does not apply to the Knox WeCare Day Care mission as they have a separate policy and procedure.
